Scamming the Scammer – Chapter 2

April 23, 2018 by Bill Brier Leave a Comment

This all took place in 2004.

As we learned last week, Michael (a Nigerian scammer out to get rich) wrote to Bill,
who he thinks is Martha, a rich Beverly Hills widow.

Here, Martha writes back.

Dear Michael, I just can’t believe it. Hearing from you that is. I’ve been ill for sometime and now that I’m better, as a present to myself, I bought my first computer. Now God has smiled down and sent you to me. Please write back and let me know more specifics of what’s needed to be done. I must say this Michael, I am unwilling to do anything that is at all illegal but if this business is on the up and up I’d be very interested.

You mentioned that this is to be secret and confidential. I usually talk to my granddaughter (she’s an account) about my investments but I will wait until I hear back from you before mentioning anything to her. (And won’t she be thrilled and surprised!).

Michael, do you have dogs? I hope so because I’m quite a dog lover you know. I have the cutest little fella named Kuma you ever saw. Oh, but I’m going on. I hope we can talk more later. I have pictures too if you’d like to see them. I just learned how to do attachments. Hope to hear from you soon, Michael.

God bless, Martha.

MICHAEL WRITES BACK:

Dear Martha,

Thank you for your response,I sincerely appreciate your interest,to assist me however I would like to be sure of your willingness, trustworthiness and commitment to execute this transaction with me,I cannot afford to compromise these virtues.

please i want this transaction to be highly confidential and please don’t discuss it with your grand daughter until it is over. Considering the money involved,it is necesary for me to be sure of the person to whom I will be entrusting this transaction,my trust is not given out lightly, I need to be convinced that you are a matured person with some intergrity.

Furthermore, if we follow up this transaction diligently it would be completed within 14 working days. What I expect from you is trust and commitment, I want this large sum of money transfered with your assistance. I want to know if you are willing to follow up this business seriously before I can give you more details about this transaction,I shall be waiting for your response and assurance. i am not a pet lover so i realyy don’t keep pets.

Sincerely, Micheal Thomas esq.

READER COMMENT #1

So I have this right, Michael is a real scammer and you are playing the role of Martha.  Is that correct?

BILL:  Precisely!

READER COMMENT #2

Very interesting.  I never cease to be amazed at the scams people fall for. Mr. Thomas doesn’t seem to know how to spell his own first name. Also, his command (or lack thereof) of the language is interesting for a guy based in Atlanta.

READER COMMENT #3

MARTHA IS A PIECE OF WORK!!!  But Michael is the KING!  Omigod…I’m crying I’m laughing so hard…”my flawless reputation – among other things”!

One can only wonder and surmise what “they” might be???  And…”can I send you a picture of my dog”!!!!!  Priceless…this is better than radio in the 40’s…”Only the Shadow knows…”!!!!

More, more…

THREE DAYS LATER, MICHAEL:

Hello Martha, your silence is rather strange,I have been expecting to hear from you for the past few days, what is the situation, do I still have to keep waiting indefinitely? At least you could have given me feedback instead of keeping me waiting just like that.

at this stage i will want you to know that being part of this trasaction is at your own free will you can back out at any time.please let me know where i stand. I earnestly await feedback from you

Sincerely Micheal Thomas esq.
